What a night! And what an atmosphere! Together with BIG, A-lab presented the feasibility study on Oslo Science City in front of a jam-packed Oslo City Hall the 30th of November 2021. The following pictures and quotes are a report on the atmosphere there:

«We are creating something that Norway has never seen before, an innovation district that builds upon our culture, our knowledge community and our strong neighborhoods. Consequently, we also need a new type of process, a new type of co-creation.»

Geir Haaversen, project leader from Team A-lab

«It is absolutely wonderful to see feasibility study and the level of ambition. This is going to a community that strong minds from all over the world is going to want to be a part of.» (Kristin Skogen Lund, Schibsted)

«Interdisciplinary work without the disciplines does not work. We have to use knowledge to shape the future.» (Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Climate and the Environment)

«Collaborations across disciplinary gravitational fields will be crucial in order for Oslo Science City to succeed. And we want to collaborate with all of Norway!» (Christine Wergeland Sørbye, CEO Oslo Science City)

«The university sector has a long way to go in regards to collaboration with the business sector. We lay golden eggs every year, but we need help with the hatching!» (Bjørn Atle Bjørnbeth, Oslo University Hospital)

«When entrepreneurship meets knowledge, jobs are created!» (Leo Grünfeld, Menon Economics)

«This is not going to turn out just like each of us wants, because we have to give and take to make the product bigger than the sum of different interests.» (Jon Gunnar Pedersen, Arctic Securities)

The brilliant aspect of the event in Oslo City Hall was that it made the 600 representatives from knowledge institutions, startup communities, business, government and finance look up. It sparked commitment. Christine Wergeland Sørbye’s competent and visionary leadership of Oslo Science City was the obvious guarantee that all of these forces are going to succeed – together. It is a privilege to get to know all of these competent people through the co-creation process. We are looking forward to the next step!
