How to create safe and inspiring living condition for students?
TYPE OF PROJECT: Housing for students
LOCATION: Nordberg, Oslo
CLIENT: University of Oslo (UiO)
COLLABORATORS: La La Tøyen Landscape
SIZE: ca. 16 800 m2
PROJECT STATUS: Start of construction February 2024, planned completed August 2026
Nature and sustainability are in focus when designing the student housing that soon will begin to rise at Nordberg in Oslo. The new building volumes wrap around 53 magnificent trees that are preserved on the site. The entire building volume has been toned down and adapted to the surrounding residential buildings and allotment gardens, and the carbon footprint has been reduced by 30%. After many years of studying student housing in relation to needs and functionality, we have designed a series of room solutions that are adapted to single living, families and collectives, with carefully designed common areas and activities. A rather poetic stormwater drainage system is planned, which will help to improve the quality of the students' outdoor areas.
