A-lab onto the team developing Filipstad

Filipstad is the final piece in the development of Oslo's Fjord City and will provide Oslo with almost three thousand new homes, attractive commercial premises and a rich public offering.

Finally, another area along Oslo's harbour front will be opened up to Oslo's residents and visitors, as has already been done in Bjørvika. Today, Filipstad is a large industrial area with a unique location on the sea front.

Hav Eiendom is responsible for the development of the area and has engaged the architectural firm A-lab and the consultancy firm Asplan Viak as advisors for the first part of the planning and development process. This includes Hans Jægers kvartal - the area closest to Aker Brygge. Through a broad process, Hav Eiendom has talked to a number of the leading companies in the Oslo area, and after several rounds, two partners have been selected.

- We now have top expertise on board and will follow up on the politicians' desire to move forward with the process at Filipstad. For Fjordbyen and Filipstad, this means that the important foundation that is now being laid is in the best hands, says Jorleif Jørgenvåg, Head of Planning for Filipstad at Hav Eiendom.

In the years to come, Hav Eiendom will develop Filipstad into a new and vibrant part of the Oslo Fjord City. The new neighbourhood will provide Oslo with almost 3,000 new homes, attractive commercial premises and a rich public offering. "The development time is between 10 and 20 years.

- We have a large, complex and important planning and development task ahead of us. Through the zoning regulations from 2020, the city council wanted urban density, while at the same time setting very high ambitions for the quality of the new urban area, says Jørgenvåg.

Furthermore, the new city council has made it clear that it wants to complete Fjordbyen by, among other things, accelerating the development of Filipstad - and moving the international ferry terminal from Hjortnes at Filipstad. This also opens the way for urban development in what is currently Color Line's terminal area. We're talking about an additional 1,400 homes, sea baths, saunas and large green areas. The environmental ambitions at Filipstad are also high.

- We are keeping up the pressure and are ready for initial dialogue with the planning and building authorities. We are now working towards submitting a planning initiative in 2024, says Liz-Hidi Leonhardsen, Development Director at Hav Eiendom.

From Bjørvika to Lysaker

A-lab has been involved in the development of Oslo's harbour front for 25 years. It began with the development of Barcode, then Bispevika, Grønlikaia and further out to Lysaker. A-lab is now moving forward with fresh courage and is looking forward to helping develop Filipstad.

- We are proud to be chosen and humbled by the important task we get to be involved in, in collaboration with so many talented people, says Geir Haaversen, CEO and Head of Urbanism at A-lab.

He describes Filipstad as a central part of Fjordbyen, which is now finally on its way. A development everyone in Oslo has been waiting a long time for.

- "Our most important task is to find good and sustainable solutions to all the complex challenges facing the city and harbour front development. The green, vibrant and beautiful city will last for many generations," says Haaversen.
