A-Lab feasibility study on Hønefoss has been selected for further development
A-lab together with Multiconsult and a few other practices were chosen to pitch feasibility studies for Hønefoss station area. The limited competition is organized by Bane NOR Eiendom and XPND as an effort to develop Hønefoss. The assignment encompassed solutions for the train station in lieu of the development of the Ringeriksbanen, residential housings, retail- and business spaces, urban spaces and green recreational spaces for the neighborhood. The other teams were DRMA and Halvorsen & Reiner.
Our pitch was “a new town which feels like it has always been part of Hønefoss”. It is important with a strong sense of identity and something that has a historic anchor, which the dairy quarter here has and something we want to amplify. The planning area will be connected to the city center through a sequence of urban spaces with a variety of attractions. The transportation and mobility connection will be efficient.
The main elements in team A-Lab’s vision puts the old dairy building as the heart of the new town. An urban street connects the public transport with the Dairy quarter. The entrance to the new town is placed on the east side through a “portal” in the building. Green vegetation along the train tracks will aid in combating urban flooding. Other vegetational landscape elements proposed is a park in the east and greenery for the residential areas.
We got positive feedback on our proposed scale, the organizers said that it is very compatible with Hønefoss. Looking forward to the next phase!
