Folklore and nature

The proposal for a new music theater is not just a theater; it is a living, breathing ode to Norway's and Bergen's cultural heritage and cultural heritage and natural beauty, inviting everyone to explore the depths of imagination, just as Grieg's music has done for generations.

Nature, rain and wind have been a source of inspiration and inspiration and a determining factor in the design of the proposal. The building's aesthetics and vision can be described as a chiseled mountain cave shaped by rain and wind over thousands of years. Entering this cave will evoke the feeling of stepping into an underground world full of caves and characters from old Norwegian folklore.

Northern landmark

When the winter months lay its darkness over Hammerfest, a luminous blue façade by the waterfront vibrates almost like the famous northern lights. When the daylight once again reach the arctic regions, the warmth from the red-painted cladding emerges through the glass shell and creates a backdrop for reflections of the sea and the mountains. With the Arctic Culture Center (AKS), the harbor area of Hammerfest is revitalized, and the town becomes the cultural center the region has been missing for so long.

Art is an integrated element in the entire architectonic design. The façade makes up the most striking element, and alludes to the unique daylight conditions in this region. Not only can this town offer winters where the sun never rises and summers where the sun never sets, the northern lights are also an attraction. The two-piece façade has an exterior, transparent layer decorated with snow crystals and ornamented with strips of LED lights. When the LEDs are lit, it is as if the whole building wakes up and vibrates in a bluish purple light that create shifting reflections on the water surface, almost like the northern lights. The luminous façade helps brightening up the town throughout the winter darkness.

In the foyer, the shimmering northern lights are burnt into the walls in the piece of art by Marius Martinussen. A series of gold-foliated stripes shoots up the red rib wall and gives the room a glorious, almost sacral character, while the impressive ceiling height and the large floor-to-ceiling windows let nature penetrate the building. The staircase leads up to a bridge, where the traverse over to the main hall of the center, is an attraction in itself. Up here, the view of the North Sea is spectacular – to put it mildly.

Attraction along the sea

When a hotel becomes a cultural hot spot. The new iconic building in Northern Norway's culture capitol is situated as if it was laying in the fjord. It stands out in the fjord landscape and are visible from many perspectives. From the inside, the tall, slender shape gives all the guests as much panoramic view and contact with the ocean and nature as possible.

On the ground floor, there will be a restaurant on the seafront, a bar with outdoor seating and an event hall. These functions are open and accessible to the public and face several different directions so that as much of the facades are activated as possible.

With walking access from a separate sidewalk spanning a width of 1,5 metres along the access road's southwestern side, the hotel has become a stop and an attraction along the "Path along the sea".
