The student housing as city repair
The project is an infill project which responds naturally to the existing block structure in the area and surrounding buildings. Volume, heights and façade lines are adapted to the neighborhood’s scale and architectonic character with a contemporary touch.
The student housing will add new energy into the development of a rough area through several key measures. The architecture which will reflect the younger residents and through new connections and shortcuts to the neighborhood will increase the accessibility to the area.
The project will have active façades where it faces the street to give a sense of safety. Christian Krohgs gate is a street that today feels unsafe, a façade where you can see activity and people will benefit everybody who lives on this street. Terrasses, balconies and french balconies will add additional eyes on the street and not least provide an extra quality to the apartments.
The project adjusts itself to its’ spatial context by volume and height. The façade design is inspired by the surroundings, which have a depth of time to it with buildings from different eras, with the oldest being from the 1800s. The color scheme functions as a bridge between the corporate buildings facing Hausmanns gate and the residential building facing north-east.
The prime directive of project is to provide most student housings of great quality in the heart of Oslo. Through compacted and efficient units with good daylight conditions and access to shared spaces and great outdoor facilities. The project was developed holistically. Location, volume, floor plans, technical solutions and quality of living were all integral to the concept. The concept is meant to be enriching both for the future residents and neighbors.
