De Tre Søstre
The three towers, also known as De Tre Søstre (the three sisters) is part Kanalbyen. The sister towers are the newest addition to the neighborhood of Kanalbyen, a scenic urban area in Kristiansand where A-Lab was the zoning architect.

Façades
The three buildings vary in form, expression and materiality, yet they are perceived as related to one another through size, placement and the dialogue between them. The varied expression is a continuation of the architecture seen in the rest of Kanalbyen. The varied expressions also allowed for the maximization of the qualities in the placement of the towers and each apartment unit. In addition, the floor planning also varies within each of the sister towers. The three high-rises add to the area with the heights, balancing out the skyline with the art museum Kunstsiloen on the other side of the Kanalbyen strip.
A neighborhood for life
The goal for Kanalbyen is to make a good neighborhood for all phases in life. By creating a place where people want to stay long, one lay the foundation for a good neighborhood. It rests on the idea of investing in time to foster a strong community. To facilitate for this, the project has variation both in in size and orientation of units within each apartment complex. Variation in size makes it possible to stay in the same neighborhood even though changes in life requires a change in.
Forest and sea
For The Three Sisters, all units are corner apartments, and they all have proximity to both the forest and the ocean. All residents have access to a nice salon area with an ocean view. There is also a smaller salon/living room space facing the courtyard and the forest. The different outdoor areas are sectioned into zones with different profiles depending on activities, time of the day and weather conditions. All these qualities are crucial in making high rises good homes and creating a strong local community.
