Architectural concept
The consideration for the diversity of nature and the great outdoor space is central and defining for this project. The building’s placement is carefully situated so that the green space along the river Aker can be strengthened, and the outdoor spaces are experienced as more coherent and spacious. By placing the kinder garden closest to the river and consolidating the outdoor areas towards this green and blue landscape, one ensures that the children get direct access to nature with great possibilities to play, explore and experience nature. The upgrade of the soil and the sanitation of polluted ground will provide better conditions for vegetation and increase biodiversity
For the students, the project will have apartments with great light conditions, view and access to green outdoor spaces. The design of the building shields from the noise and makes it possible for quiet living rooms and social meeting spots, especially those towards the green zones. Common areas are oriented towards the street which contributes to a sense of vitality and activity in the urban space, something that creates an increased sense of safety and quality in the area.
The project strengthens the connection to the existing hiking route along the river of Aker by moving and upgrading it to be more accessible and safe for both residents, children and visitors. In addition will these efforts reduce the conflict between pedestrians, cyclists and motorized vehicles. Close vicinity to nature and body of water provides both students and children access to a rich ecological environment with potential for learning, recreation and experiences.
In sum, the project will contribute to transform, what is today a very unattractive and partially polluted plot, into a vibrant, green and inclusive area for different generations. The project will accommodate for quality of nature, better rainwater management and a strengthening of the blue-green structures. The project will also deliver on providing two important functions in a society; student housing and kindergarten.
