After half a year of intense work, we can finally present Treverket, a proposal for the design of the innermost plot on Grønlikaia called the Verket. Please join us on an exploration of the waterfront of the future.

The place in the middle

At first glance, the site for the old Alu plant may seem like the outskirts of Fjordbyen. But if you turn your gaze, it is actually in the middle of most things.

On the edge between the cliff and the fjord, on the border between new and old town, in the middle of Oslo's origins, in the meeting between people from one of Oslo's most divided districts.

A collection of unique buildings designed to create a new public space and regenerative learning space on the ground floor

With Barcode and Bispevika, we have worked in the area for many years. It was a big «wow» to be selected among such talented teams, and thus be allowed to continue working on shaping the fjord town. For half a year we have dived into what the workplace of tomorrow will look like, with regards to sustainability, both environmentally and socially, and new industry and innovation.
Please let us present Treverket

The neighborhood - a power plant

When Treverket is finished, it will be the center of a completely new neighborhood with several thousand residents. Sørenga and Gamlebyen, which are currently separate sub-areas, will, together with the rest of Grønlikaia, have a natural meeting point in the Treverket.

Based on local resources, Treverket will become a power plant for the local area and the city, where local resources will have a greater impact, and new meeting places and a common arena will be created.

Treverket creates a space for meetings and attracts the creative power and diversity of the adjacent neighborhoods and becomes a showcase for a more sustainable city life based on circular principles for Oslo.

Section

The city floor is owned by everyone

Treverket shall be an open place with room for everyone. The entire city floor, both inside and outside, is therefore publicly accessible and programmed for Oslo's population.

Learning landscape

Pollution, agriculture and urbanization have made the Oslofjord one of the world's most polluted fjords. It is so serious that the fjord will die if we do not take active measures to save it. Many of the projects along Grønlikaia take innovative measures to strengthen marine life. In addition, there is a need to tell and teach Oslo's population about what is needed to save the fjord.

The entire outdoor area and the Harbor Promenade around Treverket are designed as a learning landscape that actively cleans water and strengthens biological diversity above and below water, and which can be experienced and understood by users.

The Fjord Centre

The landscape is part of the Fjord Centre, a place for learning about the state of the Oslofjord and a showcase for the innovation being done in the other projects along Grønlikaia.

The work is the entrance portal to Grønlikaia, where everyone passes, which gives good exposure to the Fjord Centre.

The Fjord Bath

The learning landscape also has a social function. At the fjord, Treverket invites new ways of experiencing water and wants to expand the concept of what bathing culture is. In this way, a larger part of Oslo's population can be included in enjoying the fjord, in ways that may be perceived as safer and more accessible to more people.
