Streetscape plan for Holmestrand - green lighted

Streetscape plan and plan for design of Langgaten and Øvre torg

The city council has approved the streetscape plan that was handed last Christmas. We are thrilled that the proposal was received well and that the upgrade  of Langgaten can commence  when the new county will be completed in a about a year. Today Langgaten is a tired and run-down street, but as the plan suggests, there is potential here to make it into something Holmestrand needs. The streetscape plan also include plan for designing Langgaten and Øvre Torg as well. This was a team effort with A-Lab and Multiconsult.

In short, the streetscape plan addresses the following themes:

Reducing and redirecting car traffic in Langgaten to make it more friendly for pedestrians and businesses

·         Parking space for shopping

·         More green vegetation

·         Expansion of Dr. Graaruds plass as a square without cars

·         Other squares will become green retreats and urban spaces with activities and stay

·         The plan prioritizes pedestrians, cyclists and public  transport  travelers

The streetscape plan entails guides for future developing projects as well, as holistic planning is important.

What will happen next?

Financing and sectioning the process into phases will determine how much of the plan will be realized, but for now the municipality want to  test out different elements from the proposed plan, as temporary measures. There will be a town hall about the plan and to establish what should be prioritized in the first phase. We wish Holmestrand, good luck with this next phase and cannot wait to see will happen.
